THANK YOU - About a year ago in Mid may, I found myself in a very bad way. I was laying near my vehicle by the roadside, at Joggin Bridge. I was having a heart attack. From that moment on, and over the next few days, several people came into my life that allowed me to be here today. I was sure I would meet many of them so I could personally thank them. As luck would have it, I have only run across one of them. So with this note, I want to say thank you to the following: To the lady who first stopped and called 911, to her sister and brother-in-law who looked after my vehicle and personal items, to the EHS drivers who took me to the ER and the ER for being open, to the life flight crew who were so busy the ambulance had to take me to the airport while they were refueling. To the “stint people”, who around midnight, performed their magic, to the ICU crew who were flat out every time I saw one, always professional and efficient, to the EHS guys that took me to Yarmouth to recover, and overhearing the radio calls asking if they were available for more calls, to the folks at the Yarmouth hospital who seemed to always to be smiling, no matter what. I want to express a huge thank you to each and every one of you for making a difficult time in life as easy as possible. One last thought on our health care system: At every step of my adventure, I saw a system that is stretched. People were busy, very busy. I overheard many conversations where staff or resources were short. But they were making do and delivering their services as if they had plenty of time. I realize that our wait times are long for our everyday ails, but to go from the roadside in Digby, to being wheeled out of the OR in Halifax in just a few hours, shows a system that works when the chips are down.
